Our History
Beautiful Gate Zambia was established in 2003 by Zambian couple, Bill and Thelma Kaping'a. Upon graduating from their discipleship training school (DTS) at Youth With A Mission (YWAM) Muizenberg, Cape Town the Kaping'as immediately joined Beautiful Gate South Africa. After serving as volunteers for a couple of months, the couple returned home to pioneer Beautiful Gate Zambia. Initially, the project operated from their two-bedroomed house in Ndeke Township, Kitwe. Two years later, funds were sourced to build a proper school at its current location in the outskirts of the Township.
The name Beautiful Gate originates from the Bible passage of Acts 3:2 “Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts. When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked for money. Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!" Then Peter said, Silver nor gold I do have, but what I have I give you in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”
Currently Beautiful Gate Zambia runs a community school from Grade 1 to 9 as well as a skills training center for out-of-school youths. In addition to this, the organisation runs an ambitious youth programme called Youth Adventure Camps (YAC) - the programme is intended to keep the youth away from mischief and encourage them to engage in productive activities.
