community outreach
Robert and Mulenga shanty compounds which are our catchment areas are extremely poor; there are no basic facilities in these compounds such as running water, proper drainage system and electricity.
Apart from this, there is a high incidence of HIV/AIDS in the area. Most people live below the poverty datum line; what they call their homes are unbelievably makeshift ramshackle waiting to collapse! In addition to this, they lack proper nutrition hence further exacerbating their already deteriorating health. The aim of the community outreach programme is reaching out to people living with HIV/AIDS to show them love and compassion in a practical way by cleaning their homes, helping them draw water from communal taps and digging pit latrines. We also offer them protein rich food substances. We also facilitate the Tree clinic annually by a team of volunteer medical personnel that administer treatment on various ailments e.g. treat wounds and skin rashes and handout vitamins – a very vital component for people suffering from T.B and HIV/AIDS. We would refer the serious cases to the hospital and meet the medical expenses. In future we intend to open up a clinic so as to be able to offer basic medication on a daily basis. |
