family life skills

The family is the most basic unit of any society; therefore if a community or indeed a nation is to prosper, the family must be strengthened in every area of human endeavour.  We have therefore made it our mission to help make families stronger in the community.

Other initiatives include providing access to seed capital, short term food relief, advice and referrals and finding long-term solutions.

"The family is the most basic unit of government. As the first community to which a person is attached and the first authority under which a person learns to live, the family establishes society's most basic values," Charles Caleb Colton.

Every year we run a number of workshops to help equip parents and guardians with life skills and important information.
Parenting skills training

Our parenting skills training runs over 8 days (once a week), reaching a total of 80 parents each year. Topics covered include:
  • Family planning
  • Positive parenting (discipline)
  • Nutrition and HIV/AIDS
  • Restoring family ties
  • Rights and responsibilities – raising children holistically (looking at child’s gifts)
  • Psycho-social care and support (mainstream – not just material provision but nurturing children)
  • Adult literacy and career advice
  • Small business enterprise
Economic empowerment programme

Under this programme, widows receive training in tailoring and design. This intensive programme runs for 6 months. Upon successful completion of the training programme, graduating students are empowered with sewing machines or seed capital to start their own small businesses. This way they are able to raise finances to support their families.
